BMW 320d 2008 - Rear Door Central Locking - DJ2404

Hi All,

My near side rear door will close with central locking (including the usual auto lock @ 10mph) and can be manually unlocked/opened from the inside. It will not unlock through central locking.

All other doors hunky dory.

General advice seems to be to upgrade fuse 57 from 15a to 20a - but on my particular car, fuse 57 isn't identified as anything to do with doors - indeed it is empty. However, I checked all the fuses linked to the central locking, all ok.

Independent specialist tells me its my actuator, £150 + labour new, £25 pre-owned. But he also said that if I don't get it fixed, they might all go and lock me out. That last bit sounds dubious.

Does the forum agree, it sounds like a broken actuator? On a 10 year old car that has only 2 more years in my care, £200 to repair a door I don't use seems pointless. Is the £25 option viable for someone who's not afraid of a set of spanners and screwdrivers but no particular skill?

Central locking faults on the E90 models are pretty common. Won't be a fuse problem,because you will lose operation in 2 or 4 doors,not one. I suspect the lock actuator is at fault. Not sure I would risk a s/hand unit. Too much work to replace it. Tale about not getting it fixed will cause lock out is rubbish. Not a difficult job to change,but a bit of a fiddle. You will need trim removal tools and some Torx drivers/sockets.
