VW Caddy Life 2013 - VW Caddy Fault Code P0403 EGR Malfunction - chris007

Hi

I've got a fault code on my Caddy and would like to know if someone can point me in the right direction please.

Code P0403 - From a search online it looks like the EGR needs cleaning.

I've searched online and the few forums I've found and couple of youtube videos have totally different information to what the VW Caddy Haynes Manual states.

I've followed the instructions where the Solenoid is and this has been checked and its working. I assume the problem must be with the Valve.

Looking at the Haynes manual it looks like the EGR valve is right in the middle of the engine bay (at the front - near the dip stick).

However, looking online at forums / videos / and even looking at EuroCarparts to see an image of the thing, it doesn't match up with the manual.

Can anyone give me an idea where the EGR Valve is located please.

If this is a 1.6 engine,then you can't see the egr valve.It is located at the back of the engine.,under the tubo and exhaust system Allow around 4-5 hours to replace it. No joke.

Yeah its a 1.6. So off the photos whats the metal thing at the front? As thats what the Haynes manual say to change. cheers

This model comes with different engines. 1.6 with 75 or 102 PS, and a 2.0 with 110 or 140 PSS.

Specifying which engine size you've got will greatly increase the chance of someone being able to help you.

Sorry, its a 1.6. The Haynes manual states the metal thing at the front of engine is the EGR valve. Please see photo links above. Cheers.

Can you post up your engine code ?Should be on the cambelt cover or in the front page of the drivers handbook. Probably starts with a Cxxx

The 1.6 diesel is a dog of an engine in the caddy, the 2.0 diesel is much better provided you don't go for the bluemotion version which is slower than a bus.

That’s the vin/chassis number,not the engine code.The code you are looking for should be 3 or 4 letters

The silver pipe with a corrugated section is the EGR pipe coming from the EGR cooler located at the back of the engine.

The cooler, which will be the faulty part is a bit of a pig to change.

If the vehicle has had the VW emissions fix in the last 2 years, VW should change it for free.

Otherwise it will cost many hundreds £ to replace.

Only buy genuine VW part, not pattern which will soon fail.

They recently did with my 2012 Polo 1.2 TDi. Quite a big job and one I’m glad I didn’t have to pay for.
