Peugeot 106 1.1 1997 - Rough idling and stalling when revs drop from high - liammcl

Hi,
My little princess is bit asthmatic today :(

I took the idle contrl valve out and took it to bits...
and since it looked a bit worn on the contacts,
ibb.co/g1DYK6
I decided to get my hand in my pocket ! and get another
(ebay £20, but I got a new one from a motor factors £35 as I wanted it asap)

I put some new spark plugs in too (£7) (I spoil that car :) )

No difference !

This is what it sounds like on tiockover
and towards the end I pull the icv connector off, and not a huge amount of difference...
youtu.be/8-nCKOwwCho
I have no idea if I should notice it when running
(altho' thinking about oit, it probably doesn't do the ecu any good)

ps pleae ignore the tappet noise, it's always been like that ...
it the hard of breathing bit is the new problem

When the car is running, it still has its amazing performance ..
but, in neutral if I blip the accelaerator (to 3500rpm at a a guess)
and then let it idle, it will stall after 4 seconds.

Any ideas please?

new spark plug leads?
ps the throrrle body butterfly looks clean , but there were a light spray og oilish on the walls, which Ihave cleaned offf...

Cheers
Liam
pps this started 2 days after installing the amazing ! remopte control from ebay
dunno if it could feed back a pulse thru the cig ligther and harm the ecu

I try to never screw around with French electrics.

So I'd suggest removing remote control and see if it changes anything.

Thank Hardway ,
tbh, the remote is just plugged into the cig lighter, so not hard wired.
I've pulled that out & no difference.

It seems not to be *just* at idle... it seems very slightly lumpy to , I guess 2000 rpm (I've no rev counter)

I wonder if it could've skipped a toouth , as I stalled it around that time too...

I wonder if it cold be aa spark plug lead...or the coil pack

Sparks look good across all 4 cylinders .
...too good on no 3 ...I got a shock :D hence the sharp end to the video

(the flame is just somje wd-40 , contact spray around the spark plug on the outside)

Cheers

TBH l couldn't watch the video to the end - too squeamish. However, my top tip is please use insulated pliers next time.

Cheers Chris,
I have lived and learnt a belting lesson :D

ps I have wd-40 about 7 connectors..
and sprayed intake cleaner direct into the throttle body.

next up , i'll replace the fuel filter (£4.50) as it's been a few years

maybe it'll fix itself by the morning , if I have a few beers
...gotta be worth a try ;)

Well, I've found out what it is.,..
and maybe the clue was there all along !?!

after taking the idle control valve back out and cleaning the contact pins (as I imagined it could've been on the shop's shelf for many a moon !) and actually seeing it moving the control valve ..

I went back, and started pulling ht leads off....
and when I took HT lead 3 off...(the only one which gave me a shock in the video above)
the car ran just as before lumpy.

ibb.co/dYs346

ibb.co/jwACxR

Taking any other ht lead out killed the car immediately.

So, hopefully it is the coil pack and not the ecu or the leads leading to the coil pack etc
(I swapped the ht leads around and still the same at no 3 on the coil)

Just shows you how bad-ass my little car is...it was kicking ass on 3 cylinders :D

wait till, I get going again...I'm gonna race that milk float to an inch of it's life !!
we'll see who is the creme de la creme :)

Cheers all

Peugeot 106 1.1 1997 - Rough idling and stalling when revs drop from high - liammcl

in the end , it was all down to a £1.95 rubber ring
(£1.95 from ebay, delivered...or £60 from peugeout, who didn't habve it in, nor could get it !
part no 0363.72)

what it was , in the end, was the rubber gasket (£1.95 from ebay) , which sits around the heating element, under the throttle body's butterfly valve.

It had stretched and got sucked up, and off it's groove
