Some of you may know the roundabout section of the road on the north side of the railway bridge at Cochester railway station. there are box junctions to keep the junctions clear and also some bus lanes.

This evening, waiting at a green traffic light to go straight on I was undertaken by 3 cars who then proceeded to block the box junction in front of me that i was waiting before and leaving clear... for obvious reasons.

They then impeded traffic when the lights changed and got stuck. Doh!

Cue many horns.

Allegedly only 2 of the numerous bus lane cameras in colchester work. Someone forgot to get authorisation...

Every junction should be treated in the same way that box junctions should be treated - they were invented to make clear to those drivers too thick to understand the perfect hemorrhaging obvious - but it's clearly too difficult a concept for some of them.

It never ceases to surprise me any more how many people lack basic knowledge about our roads and the Highway Code. I appreciate some of this also comes from arrogance and greed though.
My key gripes are box junctions also, people not merging correctly and the lack of knowledge about national speed limits. So many people seem to think on a road where it is 60 on a single carriage way it is 40 or 50 to them. And the I have to mention the middle laners.
One of the best I saw was on the A50 dual carriageway when a long line of people were following a marked police car doing about 60 to 65. I went trundling past the line at 70 and pulled in front if the police car and the about 15 cars that were following then proceeded to do the same !!

Speed limits are maximums, not targets or minimums.

A couple iof decades ago, maybe longer, police drivers were instructed not to cruise at the speed limit as it caused too much congestion, so 5-10 mph below the limit is their normal cruise.

It amazes me how many drivers think that 60 is the limit for cars/bikes on non-motorway dual carriageways - and on forums, the number of drivers that think dual carriageways always have two lanes in each direction!

I noticed that around Colchester they seem to have their own 'style' of driving, it almost makes the drivers in London look like something of a motoring fairytale.

Box junctions like that can be a nightmare for drivers of long vehicles. While you wait for a large enough space the other side, everyone and his dog keep moving over to that free space.

Dawdling along for no reason would be a test fail - failing to make progress.

50-55 in a 60 limit isn't dawdling - bear in mind that some classes of vehicle are limited to 50 on single carriageways anyway - 40mph in most of Scotland.

People appear to be unaware that you can enter and be stationary in a box-junction-as long as you are turning right.I regularly need to use a right trurn at a particular junction and end up waitnig several changes of lights because the person at the front of the right turn lane will not enter the junction.

Having held a PCV D+E and LGV C+E for many years, I'm quite aware of speed limit variations for diferent classes of Vehicle.

There is a box junction I pass through every week or two. What bemuses me are people who are going straight on along the main road but cannot go anywhere block people turning right (illegal and causing occasional gridlock). Worst offenders seem to be the school-runners whose minds seem elsewhere!

Yes I agree, they also dont give way at roundabouts, more now ignore the give way to the right and go straight across/right without stopping.

I`ve had several near misses because of this

The way some of them drive/park/unload kids on the offside etc I don't think they have minds at all.
