Depends what you mean by serious.There a lots of pretty much stock faults for a golf of this age.None too serious (dangerous)but many faults that could be expensive to fix.Lots of fault codes flagged,but as I have always said,you can't fix cars on fault codes alone.

Many of your fault codes may be red herrings. You'll be surprised how many could've been there from the day of manufacture. Having saved a log now clear all your codes and re-scan. Those that remain will be live codes and represent actual faults.

By the sounds of it you have a fault on your brake light circuit which will have an effect on multiple controllers.

Hi thank you for your replies.

I have done another scan and its now chucking up new codes.

Since rescanning I had the emissions light on for a while but it has now gone off.

Also the EPC lights comes on intermittently.

I have been running on high octane fuel in the hope to burn off any carbon.

The brake lights work fine so Im not sure why those codes are coming up, perhaps its poor aftermarket bulbs? Should I try some OEM bulbs from the dealership?

In my opinion the car is definetly underpowered. Feels very sluggish to get going but performs better in the higher rev range.

I haven't checked the throttle body, EGR valve or the condition of the intake manifold or ports into the cylinder head for soot.

The clutch pedal is also getting stuck half way so I suspect the slave cylinder or master cylinder might be knackered but haven't checked for leaks. Need to bleed the system first and see if that improves the clutch pedal. Currently it is struggling to engage gear 3 (possible synchro issue?).

Well there has been some progress since posting this....

I have replaced the NOx sensor with one from Eurocarparts (about £320 with discount), didn't fancy paying over £500 from the s******ship!

After replacing the NOx sensor (Post cat lambda sensor) the EPC lights and CEL have now gone and have not returned since! I was actually surprised how easy it was to fit as well. I thought the sensor would have some how welded itself into the exhaust pipe / seized but luckily it came straight out with no problem.

Clear the DTCs with VCDS / VAG COM and no more EPS or CEL lights!!

Next problem was the sticky clutch pedal.....

Tracked this down to a faulty slave cylinder. Once removed which again was pretty straightforward it was clear it was in bad shape, the boot had split and the push rod looked knackered. Got a replacement from Eurocarparts and from the s******ship to see if there was any difference (other than price!! ECP was about £35 with discount, s******ship £75!!!). To my surprise there was no difference at all! The body of the slave cylinder was exactly the same as the s******ships. Both were made from FTE and had exactly the same tool marks except the s******ship version had the VW part numbers and logos etc...

Once replaced the clutch was like new! very smooth and easy to use with light operation!

One thing to remember here, one you remove the hydraulic pipe from the slave cylidner you will need to renew the seals otherwise it will leak / let air in / pedal will get stuck to the floor!!

THe part numbner for this from strealership is 1K0 798 741

It contains 2 x O-rings, 2 x Cap Seals.

I only required the cap seal , but i am aware some hydraulic pipes require a combination of the o-ring and cap seal, or just the o-ring on its own. I found out the hard way and tried with both o ring and cap seal and the thing leaked really bad and the clutch pedal went straight to the floor!

Now the car is running a lot better but it still feels really slugglish and almost like it has power surges? it will be sluggish then suddenly pick up, anyone got any advice?

Could there be an induction leak?, clogged fuel filter?, dodgy injectors?, PCV?, high pressure fuel pump issue?

Any advice would be appreciated.
