Xsara picasso 09 - Rear wiper - Ollie_jay

Hi,

Struggling with replacing the rear wiper arm on my 09 reg xsara Picasso.

The plastic split around the old one so it literally started swinging in the breeze.

Purchased a new one off the internet, undid the bolt for the old one but the new one won't fit on as it looks like a lug the shaft that is too big to go through the hole on the new arm.

Does this 'lug' also come off? It's about the size of a 1p and is patterned around the outside. Looks as if that's what grips onto the arm to turn it but the metal hole on the arm is far too small to fit over it which makes me think the lug should come off.

I do have pictures but can't post them on here.

Cheers for any help and advice

Once the nut is removed ,the wiper arm should wiggle off to leave a tapered shaft with splines on.Looks like you got the wrong arm.

You cannot post pictures directly using img tags. You can place them on a sharing site such as Photobucket and post a tinyurl link to that site.

Thanks for the feedback.

It looks exactly like the old wiper in every way except the little metal lug inside the new arm hole which made me think the bit on the spindle should have come off.

The plastic on the old arm split so was never sure if the metal lug came fixed to the arm or the spindle from the motor.

It was being sold as a replacement arm for a xsara picasso so had no reason to suspect it wouldnt be right.

I appreciate the help :-)

Looks like the part of the old arm is still attached to the shaft. This will need to come off.You may need to cut it off very carefully with a hacksaw with a cut down the side.Pliers may do the job if you move the collar slowly

Thanks, that did the trick!

Just for completness to help anyone else who may have the same problem and come across this thread -

There are two componants, the arm and the spindle that it attaches to.

In the hole on the arm should be a metal O shaped lug which is part of the arm and on the spindle (poking through the rear window) should be a small spline which seats into the metal O lug on the arm.

In my case the plastic around the O lug on the arm had sheared casuing the arm to come off leaving the O lug attached to the spline on the shaft.

To say it was welded on is an understatement but the metal is quite soft so i carefully hacksawed through it on two sides, then used a screwdriver and hammer to hit the section (being very carefull not to hit too hard and/or put the screwdriver through the rear window).

The section then came off and with a bit of encouragement so did the rest of it.

Cleaned the spline up with some WD40 and wire brush, seated the new arm in place and tightened up.

Job done.
