Golf Mk4 2001 GT TDi - New engine + Clutch done. Knocking over bumps - Jouleskeys

I ended up getting a friend of a friend to do this and on completion realised that some of the bolts were not tightened too much. Following heated discussions I have been taking the car back and forth to various garages to tighten one thing after another including the recent engine mounting bolt; as that fell out.

It passed the MOT and was told there is play in the steering. I notice a knock when going over bumps and it doesnt feel right. Could this also be linked to alack of tightening screws in the engine and clutch? If so, which screws and would they be easy to get to for me?

I am technical though not a mechanic/car man really, though have the tools. Just wondering if there are certain ones I really need to double check and tighten if needed?

Thanks

Assuming he didn't completely b***** up the first thing I'd check would be play in the bottom ball joints.

This can produce a significant "clunk" over bumps.

And my second look would be the lower rear gearbox to body mount.

Or bite the bullet and explain to a garage the history and your concerns and get them to properly check all fastener/mounts security.

And avoid you friend of a friend.
