I think it's because no one really knows. In theory, LHD cars are worth less, and when there are plenty around as a percentage of the total, e.g., Ferraris, Audi TTs, that holds true, unless the car itself is in *very* high demand (new Merc SL, maybe BMW X5).
What tends to happen in this country is that ordinary LHD cars tend to go through specialist dealerships who aren't cheap - and as the market is quite limited, most people have a special reason for seeking out an LHD car, e.g., foreign workers in London. Therefore there's not much of a saving to be had, if at all, although used prices in the UK are typically lower than the rest of Europe, because of the fleet market.
I don't know what kind of 4x4 you're considering, and don't really know a lot about them as I'm not a fan. What I would do is sell privately, and if your Spanish is any good, fly over there and buy locally, where you'll have the right local spec for garages to deal with, as well as a much better selection. (I live about 5-10 minutes' drive from you, and I can't think of any local specialists).

Actually I can, although they tend to be more about sports and luxury cars than 4x4 - they're on the corner on the south circular as you go off towards Richmond or Kew.

Try the website of a Spanish car magazine - equivalent of 'What Car' - called 'Autofacil' - website is www.unoauto.com - they give discounts available on a range of new cars
