Kia Cee'd 1.6CRDi 2008 - engine vibration - Mr Carrot Cake

God a 2008 Kia Cee'd diesel last week and I'm noticing there is a vibration from the engine at idle and noticeable vibration through the steering wheel as the revs get up towards 2000rpm. Any ideas what could be causing it?

No DMF in these so it rules that out.

But since there is no DMF the drive train is not as refined as other similar vehicles. We had a Ceed 1.6 CRDi for 5 years and it was noticably less refined than the Focus 1.6 TDCi (with DMF) we had before it in the drivetrain department.

You say you have had it only a week, has it done it since you bought it or has it just started? Could be the reason the previous owner got rid

If you bought it from a dealer take it back, if there is a problem it up to them to sort it.

Have you driven another similar car to comapre.

Yes it has done it since I got it. It was from a dealer so i think I will take it back and ask them what's up with it. I havent driven another similar car so I am not sure if it's normal but I suspect not.

I'm wondering if one of the previous owners used to make the engine labour a lot by being in too high a gear? It is quite long geared. Perhaps that has caused the vibration to develop over a period of time?

I bought a 2008 Kia Cee'd 1.6 CRDI at 1 year old 10000 miles on the clock. Mine always had the problem you have and I just thought that it was poor refinement as it was a cheap car. I sometimes had juddering as if the car was being starved of fuel but the dealer couldn't find anything wrong. At 59000 miles the turbo failed releasing all the oil from the engine resulting in complete engine failure without warning or any lights on the dashboard. The Kia dealer rebuilt the engine within 7 weeks after an investigation by Kia UK. At 80000 miles the car started using a lot of oil and there was always blue smoke on cold start up. Eventually squeaking noises from the engine and rough running I got rid of it at 92000 miles. Apparently these early 1.6CRDI engines are prone to turbo seal failure. You should take it back and exchange it for a Toyota Auris or something else Japanese.

Whilst I appreciate your reply I think most Kias seem to last quite well. They're not bad for reliability. In fact i believe Toyota's diesel engines had a problem with carbon deposits building up on the pistons which raised the compression ratio and caused the head gaskets to fail.
