I have owned a rare Renault Laguna coupé for three years. It is coming up to its 5th birthday and about 80,000 miles (150DCi TomTom edition).
I loved the look of these from when they first appeared in about 2008 ( it is based on the Laguna Mk3) and remember saying to myself at the time, "the values of these will fall quickly so maybe in a couple of years..." So I did!
Yes, the ride is a tad firm on our poor roads. I have helped to mitigate this by replacing the standard 18" wheels and tyres with Laguna 16" ones, which do soften things a little - and of coure the tyres cost less too.
The performance is perfectly good for real life day to day, and it does go round bends well. The fuel consumption is not especially good for a diesel, but I can forgive this, along with the ride and occasional dashboard rattle, when I look outside through the window at it, especially from certain angles.
In a way, it is a "bonus" that it is rare - Renault pulled the Laguna from the UK market - and I fully realise that Pound notes-wise, it is low.
I occasionally see another one on the road and feel like waving. The other week, I pulled up next to a white "Monaco" version which was about a year younger than mine (which is a "standard blue one"). The driver of the Monaco nodded, and as we were at traffic lights, we wound down the windows complimenting each others' cars. He said that his was a company car and it was about to be changed, and he seemed sad about that. I (for once) was able to say, "aha, this is mine"!!
How long I will keep it, I don't know but there are few other modern cars around in my opinion, that look so distinctive, especially for the very low prices they are going for.
