SAAB 9-5 - Intermittent rear parking sensors - martin tonbridge

I have a 2007 Saab 9-5 Aero whose rear parking sensors only seem to work in warmer weather. In the winter, I get a dashboard message and an audible beep to inform me theyre not working. Rather than have a worshop take the whole rear bumper assembly apart, I'm wondering if I could cure it by spraying WD40 or antifreeze into the sensors myself from the outside? Any thoughts? Don' think so.The sensors are a sealed unit with no access to the internal workings.Make sure the face of the sensors are clean with no peeling paint.A simple test of the sensors is to select reverse with key on-engine off ,and put your ear on each sensor in turn.A working sensor will emit a very faint clicking.
