After just over 36 months from new (and 38000 miles) and just outside the warranty, the thermostat housing has been identified as having a leak. It's now been repaired, at a fair cost because of the amount of labour involved. To me, a non car expert, this seems obviously down to a faulty part and not, given the car's age, to wear and tear. I have never come across a thermostat housing leak after just over three years in any car, it's the type of problem that I would expect to happen after many more years, if it were wear and tear. Can any mechanic give me their view? Is this a faulty that you would not expect to happen so soon, on the face of it, or is this really a wear and tear occurrence that you might expect every few years on a car? How long would you expect the housing to last, on average, before failing due to wear and tear?
Thanks v much.
