Peugeot 207 SW - Smell from ventilation system - Steveieb

Noticed a stagnent water smell when first using the car in the morning mostly.

A/C was due for recharge so had this done and deodoriser put through system which appeared to sort the problem as the deoderiser covered the odour.

Now had the cabin filters changed as the smell is evident even when the A/C is not switched on.

Any ideas please on how to fix the problem?

You say that deoderiser was put through the system-should it also have been a sanitiser that kills the mould/bacteria/fungus that is causing the smell?

I've got the same problem and would welcome recomendations as to which brand sanitiser aerosol to buy.

I had that problem, changed pollen filter and used a 'bomb' with little effect, you have to set it off in the car with the system on re-circ.

Wondered if the smell may have been coming from part of the system that only uses fresh air, so I bought an aerosol can of Neutradol and used to spray that into the fresh air intake every couple of months. That seemed to work fine, without producing an overpowering, masking smell.

Check for damp carpets and soundproofing up in the footwells.

Although damp pollen filters and water ingress therough the air intake can be an issue, there are a couple of very serious potential water ingress issues on the 207.

Have a look in the 207 section of Peugeotforums for more details.

Thanks for all your excellent posts. Have bought the Nutragena and will give it a go . But where can i find where to spray it.

Failing this I plan to call the A/C man back to take another look.

Isn't that stuff for blackheads?

I sprayed the Neutradol into the fresh air inlet, usually found at the base of the windscreen. You may have to open the bonnet.

Thanks for all your very useful posts. However the smell still persists and I'm unsure where to go from here. The smell is present whether the A/C is on or not. Can you help please?

Have you been on the continent lately? If so, you may have a decomposing immigrant somewhere under the car...

I hope you have lifted the bonnet and examined the scuttle (in front of the windscreen) where the intakes are. Stuff like dead leaves tends to collect here, which may cause some of your problem.

What happens if you turn on the blowers, set to recirculate?
