Ford Focus Estate - Price drop buying car - Comanche
Hi , new here
I,ve just agreed a price of 8500 for a car yesterday and paid a 500 deposit
6 hrs later I got an email from the company saying "good news price drop to 8500 from 8599 " after lots of haggling all I got was the 100 off,a full tank of fuel and the valet price of 80 quid knocked off , where do I stand now that it's been reduced to the price I agreed have I got any power to negotiate more off before settling up
Thanks

Too late, you've already agreed to buy at X price, unless you're prepared to lose your deposit what incentive would there be for the seller to accept less.

To haggle effectively you need a back up plan and be ready to walk, with a car as common as Focus you could probably have 500 alternatives, you make a fair offer, if they don't accept it you walk away and buy one of those other 500.

It might still be worth losing your deposit if you could get the same car for £1000 less elsewhere, but you must negotiate to a satisfactory final price before signing or putting a deposit down.

Check the terms of the sale you've agreed to, pulling out might leave you subject to further charges for any losses the dealer can think up, course its entirely possible the dealer might let you cancel the deal and return your deposit for some reason, you can but ask.

So presumably you were happy with the deal.

But the garage have reduced it to £8500 and you negotiated a price of £8500 + fuel + free valet. That sounds like a better deal.

Or have you simply changed your mind and are now looking for a possible way out.

If you've agreed a price and paid a deposit, then a legally binding contract has been created - whether you have signed a contract or not. They can't get out of it, and neither can you.

The only 'but in this case ..' that applies would be under distance selling regulations : if you haven't physically been there, and have done the deal over the phone/internet, then you can cancel the contract without penalty. Do note that if this does apply, then the garage can take a while to refund the money (I think the law allows them to take up to 12 weeks to do so, but not entirely sure).

As others have said, a line has been drawn in the sand, and you agreed to it. Their timing was a little unfortunate for you, but there it is. They MIGHT have waited a week and told you about a £1000 drop .... But remember that almost any car is a wasting asset once you own it. Presumably at the time you agreed the 8500 you thought it was a good deal? All you can ask is for a few freebies like carpet mats, touch-up etc.

But it wasn't a £1000 price drop. The OP said in the first post that the e-mail he received said "good news price drop to 8500 from 8599 ". I make that £99.

I think Op is saying that thay had haggled down more than £99 but now the car has been droped a lot anyway so they have eneded up only haggling £99 off.

Not sure why Op is complaining though as if they were happy with the price they have haggled to why complain?
