Peugeot 407 - Eolys fluid - emy
I have a Peugeot 407 2007 model that uses petrol. Recently it started showing Depollution system faulty, ESP/ABS faulty. I read on the net that eolys fluid can be used to solve the problem on a 407 diesel engine. Pls I want to know, can this fluid also be used on my petrol engine 407?

Most definitely not.Eolys is for Diesel engine cars only. You need to get a diagnostic system check.

No. Eolys fluid is an oil, and mixes with diesel fuel, which is also an oil, whereas petrol is a spirit, so using Eolys fluid would be akin to accidentally using the diesel pump when filling up. The active ingredient in Eolys is Centium and the fluid is very similar, and about the same price as, the diesel additives such as Millers Ecomax diesel additive. It works by reducing the temperature at which diesel soot burns, so you get less smoke and the diesel particle filter (DPF) doesn't fill up as quick.

What is 'Centium'? Google only comes up with a herbicide, references to electrical systems etc, nothing that seems relevant?

Sorry--- Cerium Oxide. I should put me brain into gear before hitting the keyboard.

Cerium, though, is now being considered a health-hazard and in some areas where the diesel buses use it as an additive there is air quality monitoring.

I have no personal experience of this, but trawling the various forums reveals plenty of depollution system problems with petrol 407s.

Some people claim to have fixed this with a switch to "quality" petrol and fuel additive/fuel system cleaner, with a good hard run. Might be worth a go, before you get into something more expensive.

Eolys, as others have stated, is specifically for diesels and is part of the Peugeot diesel pollution management system. On no account use it in a petrol engine.

I have no Peugeot 407 but have driving experience this depollution problem only creates due to its carborator problem. You just clean it at time and also change mobil oil of engine.

"...this depollution problem only creates due to its carborator problem. You just clean it at time..."

You reckon the Peugeot 407 has a carburettor?

Not sure you should be posting on a technical forum.

Thanks for your suggestions and advice, but my 407 uses air-flow-meter and injector, not caborator.
In this case, what do you think I should do?

"...what do you think I should do?"

Well, you've been given two pieces of advice:

1. "You need to get a diagnostic system check."

2. "Some people claim to have fixed this with a switch to "quality" petrol and fuel additive/fuel system cleaner, with a good hard run. Might be worth a go, before you get into something more expensive."

I'm not sure what else you're hoping for by way of advice. If you feel you're not getting anything useful here, go over to the specialist Peugeot message boards.

Thanks a lot, will head to the garadge tomorrow to drain out the fuel in my car, then I will fill it up with some injector cleaner, and take it for a long hard spin. I am hoping this will work. How about the ESP/ABS systems faults also displaying on the dash, do u have a clue as to the cause, and solution?

When I had a C5 the ESP/ABS systems faults light always accompanied the Anti-Pollution alarm. They will clear once you get the Depollution fault rectified.

How did you get on? A good diagnostic will tell you what's causing both error messages to appear on screen.
