Toyota - Negotiating main dealer service costs - fredl

Does anyone have any experience of negotiating the service cost with a main dealer?

An acquaintance of mine said he'd ring round a couple of nearby dealers and he'd usually get some sort of discount.

Was wondering how widespread this might be and what sort of success people have had.

If you bought it from a dealer ask them.

I used to get a small discount for being a good customer and a member of the owners club too.

Toyota UK offer fixed price servicing but there are reports that some dealers don't follow this scheme.

Ring a few of the ones closest to you and ask the question.

I did this with the supplying dealer for my Volvo V60 - I felt their service costs were a little steep, so called the other local Volvo main dealer and asked their price. The latter was 20% cheaper, so I mentioned this to the supplying dealer and they price-matched without question.

I don't even ring round. When they quote I take off about 20%, say it is from a competitor and get them to price match. Never failed yet.

If you don't want a courtesy car ask for a discount for that too.
