Not sure if the statistics agree but there do seem to be more vehicle fires these days.

I remember passing a vehicle on the M25 hard shoulder a few years ago that was well alight with the occupants safely evacuated. Even in lane 2, I could feel the intense heat of the flames but was totally frustrated that everyone had slowed to a crawl to gawp at the spectacle whereas I wanted to get away from the danger as quick as possible!
