In car cameras - Trilogy

I think it is about time I bought an in car camera. I am considering of buying a Black Bullet. It retails for around £90. Not the cheapest nor the most expensive. Does anyone have one? What do people recommend?

Thanks

I've got one the cheapest: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1280P-Hd-2-5-Lcd-Night-Vision-C...2

Not brilliant, but seems to work adequately.

I reckon it's calmed a couple of situations when I've pointed it out to other road users!

Dashboard cams or in car cameras provide you the ultimate protection and safety while driving and also good for your insurance. You can find even used ones as well that can be more cheap.

Fitted one of these:

Includes GPS and picture quality during the day is excellent. In comparison to a cheaper model which looks somewhat similar, the night-time image is acceptable. Techmoan has a review at

I had one of the £30 amazon ones, and left it switched off too long battery failed and it "lost" the software install,, but will go for the same, as it lasted well enough and image quality was ok

I have the one promoted by Brit_in_Germany but without GPS

Fitted to the windscreen (wired into the cigarette lighter) it is almost impossible to see the device from outside tha car so I leave it in situ all the time.

I use a class 6 mini sd card, and have the sound switched off as recommended by other users in the blog after Techmonan's video. You don't need sound (unless you want to record the radio).

I suggest against the GPS unti, I don't see what it offers except a map log of where have driven and a record of speed both of which are not necessary imo.

The device comes to life when I power the accessories with the key, it gives a little signature tune, the screen goes blank quickly (user defined) and it runs until I switch off the engine at which time I hear a closing signature tune.

The picture is very clear both day and night, when I first purchased the device I played back some recordings on my PC, but the novalty aspect has worn off. I ought to view it again this weekend as the car has been in the garage for the past few days ... If I'm brave enough to do so that is!

I think the GPS should automatically set the date and time as well, which could be useful to avoid having to set it manually and to keep the time accurate.

Not convinced that it's any more than a gimmick and possibly a more sinister slippery slope. Why do I need one? I maybe get cut up once or twice a month, our family has had one major accident in 35 years, so not sure what I would do with the data. Do I become some kind of snoopy vigilante, reporting everybody else's misdemeanours? Is anyone really interested in those, I'm not sure. Also I guess I could incriminate myself as I'm not perfect, are any of us.? And there's enough CCTV in this country as it is. My thoughts!

Spot on,Bazza! What surprises me is that the insurance companies have not jumped on this particular bandwagon. In-car cameras are the norm in Russia, how long before they become mandatory in the EU?

Yesterday I had to do an emergency stop for a cyclist who cycled down the footpath onto a zebra crossing directly in front of me. OK, I missed him, but it was damned close!

I reviewed the footage from my cheap camera and I'm convinced I'd have been vindicated if I'd hit him, as it clearly showed him cycling across the crossing.

Not unusual for a 'DW' cyclist to just ride off the pavement right in front of me without looking or come out of a side street.

I know a couple of people with this camera, quality seems OK:
