1980 Rolls Royce Silver Spirit - Value of Car - britishiron

Hello, I am a new member to the forum and live in the US, Florida to be exact. I am not new to British car ownership and have owned a 1964 Jaguar, 1961 Rover P4 100 and a 1959 Peerless. Two out of three were right hand drive.

I recently fell in love with an exteemely clean 1980 Rolls Royce Silver Spirit and have read as much as I can find about the Spirit and the Spur; of course I did this after I purchased the car. She is a beautifully maintained RHD with 78,000 miles and drives like a dream.

My problem is that I can not find very much information at all about the 1980 Silver Spirit other than it was a replacement for the Silver Shadow. I don't know how many were built in 1980, what issues I can expect mechanically, and more importantly - did I get a good deal on the car. That's rather subjective of course. But I'd just like to find out how close I came to clean retail. I've checked NADA here in the US and they don't even list the 1980 Spirit or Spur.

I know the Model 1 ran from 1980 to 1989 and there is plenty of information about 1981 and above. But it's as if the 1980 never really existed. I would really appreciate any information any of you can provide. Thanks very much, britishiron!

A Classic Car Guide published here in the UK last year gives a value of £15000 for an excellent Silver Spirit, £12000 for a good one and £7000 for an average one. All of these are obviously only based on general price levels and each would be only the centre of a range +/- lesser amounts. Prices here may be completely different to Florida prices, so can't directly compare them.

Being a Shadow with a new bodyshell, it will have the same potential problems.

Thanks very much for the information. I realize there will be some difference between prices in England and here in the US but the range you provided is farly close to what the cars are selling for here. You wouldn't happen to have any info on the 1980 in general?

Unfortunately early Silver Spirit models are virtually worthless in the UK due to their poor build quality and body corrosion.A scruffy one can be picked up from around £1500 .The earlier Shadow 2 models are much more desirable and good ones fetch a higher price than a Spirit.Later Spirit models from around 1987,when they started to use fuel injection systems are a much better buy,as build quality is better.hth

All the Silver Spirits for North America, where the OP is, had fuel injection from the beginning!

Ow! That's painful. Fortunately this car has spent it's live in Texas and Florida where rust is not usually an issue so the body and undercarriage are rust free. Thanks for your response.
