Toyota Auris Touring Sport - Millage Discrepancy On National Millage Register - informant79

Can anyone tell me if they have had any dealings with a second hand motor trader operating under the company name Chelsea Harbour International Cars in Bracknell? I recently purchased a vehicle from the owner calling himself "Dave". The guy is a real sweet talker an stupidly I agreed to purchase an apparently low mileage vehicle from this guy only to find out that pretty much everything he said was a lie. Firstly there were NO documents with the vehicle at which point I should have walked away but was promised that all the documents including the Log Book would be sent by special delivery post the next day. Having brought the car I waited patiently then kept calling Dave only to be fobbed off with excuses that Royal Mail were the ones responsible for the delay. Needless to say I never received Any documents to date. The worst part of all was that I later did a HPI check an saw an alert on the National Millage Register showing a discrepancy. The car was sold to me stating it had 8000 guaranteed miles on the clock. The NMR check showed it had last registered with 89000 miles. Yes I feel very stupid for being cheated out of the better part of nearly £2000. The guy has a website www.chealseaharbourintcars.co.uk with almost all his cars devoid of any information regarding mileage.

What can I do from a legal stand point in terms of the the civil & criminal law? Many thanks

Very long thread here a few weeks ago. The fact that I have associations with Bracknell and am unable to post what I know/hear about this firm must give you a clue. They are more interested in selling finance than cars Plenty of bad interb=views if you search the ner and NO good ones

However, I did find this review, on a public forum, and here it is:-

Although the Auris has been on the market for many years now in both hatch and Verso versions the Touring has only been introduced in the last few weeks. Seen a few on transporters near the Derby factory but none on the road. So how come there is a mileage descrepancy on what must be a brand new car.

Or is it simply another wind up post.

Even if the car was an elderly model the difference between a car with 8000 miles on the clock and one with 89000 on the clock should be easy to spot. No trader however unscruplious should be able to disguise that.

Or is it simply another wind up post.

Mods, please remove my original post, when I edited it it simply duplicated the post.

The post relates to a W Reg Nissan Micra not my Auris, sorry my bad. I didn't get any service history or MOT certificates so can't even check the MOT online without the V5 number.

Looks like I'm bummed till I get a new V5. I've filled in a v62 now an will be sending that off with the £25 fee. It's not even the money that bothers me its more that I've got a car on my drive that's absolutely useless as I can't get tax without any documents.

I know that second hand car dealers aren't the most moral of people but having gone to by this car with my wife an 5 year old daughter who this 'Dave' met then later to be conned an hearing fing an blinding on the phone. You just don't need it.

The guy said he was 70 years old, you would have thought he might have changed over that time for the better. Clearly Not!

Does anyone know if I can get road tax with just a v62 application an insurance assuming the vehicle has MOT which 'Dave' said it had till 2014?

Many thanks for all the good advice

You say you paid £2000 for a "W" reg Micra, you were robbed, plenty on Autrader for £700.

You bought a 13 year old car that you believed had only done 8000 miles. Surely a simple look at the car would have given you a clue that it had done 89000 miles.

As you yourself admit you have been conned big time but since these people are clearly doing this on a regular basis you stand zero chance of getting your money back. Prepare yourself for loads of pain in the future, you are unlikely to have bought a gem of a used car. Suggest you check it actually has a valid MOT before you drive it, any paperwork you do get may be faked..

Consider it a lesson learned.

From the DVLA website :-

If you are not the registered keeper of the vehicle, you

will need to apply for a V5C in your name. To get one,

fill in a V62 and post it (with the appropriate fee) to

us at the address shown on the form. Expect to wait

up to 4 weeks for a new certificate to arrive. In the

meantime, you must not keep or use your vehicle

on the public road and you must fill in a Statutory

Off Road Notification (SORN) form (V890) and send

it with your V62.
