2005 Seat Leon Cupra R - Supportng Without Wheels - dylantuk
Apologies if this has already been discussed; I was unable to find anything definitive in the forums...

I'm looking to get all 4 wheels refurbished without leaving the car at the workshop (I have some other work I'd like to do, in the meantime). I've seen a lot of talk about the safety of using 4 axle stands and I'm not convinced it's the best option so I've 'acquired' some hefty railway sleepers and considering a combination of them and 2 axle stands.

So, axle stands on the recommended jacking points front or rear; any suggestions on where I could place the sleepers?? Cut to size, of course!

Any help would be very appreciated.

Thanks

When I had my wheels done a few weeks back, I used 4 axle stands under suspension points (jacked up on front subframe and rear jacking points). Solid as a rock!

Some years ago I fitted a full Ford exhaust to my Capri. Used 4 axle stands so that the car was parallel to the ground so that I could get the system to hang correctly.

I'd never used 4 axle stands before and had read some advice saying you shouldn't do so. However, I gave it a go and, I have to agree with Cyd{P}, car was solid as a rock! Needless to say, I gave it several really good tugs before venturing underneath, and I'd certainly advise anyone else contemplating this to do the same.

Car was on concrete, by the way. No way would I have done this on earth!
