Chevrolet uk - Chevrolet? What 5 year warranty - oldroverboy.

Now, i know that personally, i am on my 4th chevrolet, and all things considered, the current cruze does the job ok, but Shocked to learn today from my friendly local dealer that all new chevrolets will have 3 year warranty, not 5.

Something we should know...

Hmm, Time to replace with a Dacia next time?

I thought the Chevrolet five year warranty was an marketing offer rather than a replacement for their standard 3 yr/60,000 mile new car warranty.

Similar to the five year warranties previously offered in the UK on things like the Fiat Punto, Daihatsu's, etc.

The Chevrolet warranty falls into line with the Vauxhall new car warranty (the Vauxhall Lifetime warranty only applies to the first, private owner).

I cant recall a 5 year warranty ever being offered on the fiat punto.

Fiat did offer 5 years on the bravo to increase its poor sales figures and to try to show its quality was on the up.

Its a shame chevrolet are going back to 3 years, it tells you all you need to know about the cheapo componenets in the general motors parts bin.

Think their sales will nose dive once this gets out. Never saw the attraction of their cars - wierd, ugly, overweight, old technology, poor performance, poor handling.....need I go on?

Are they still cheap??

Are they still cheap??

Certainly not if you look at list prices, but there is a bit of discounting going on, but if they are no longer confident enough in their product to carry on giving 5 years warranty... what does that say? Cost cutting and quality issues to come? There are far better cars than the cruze hatch at list price, but my guess is the "budget" brand chevrolet will get badly hit by dacia and the other newcomers. £15000 for a cruze that is available in a certain carsupermarket for £6500 at a year old... gottabehavinalarf!

A few years ago we looked at a Bravo on the strength of the promised 5 year warranty. It turned out that the 5 year warranty only applied if you took out dealer finance! We were cash buyers so we didn't buy a Bravo!

Chevrolet prices nose dive once pre-reged.

The Chevvy dealers in Birmingham had pre-reg 13 plate Sparks for £6,000.

Not a great car but certainly reliable and better than the suzuki alto which you can also pick up for £5,995 pre reg but possibly a step in terms of value behind the dacia sandero.

They have some decent cars - the cruze is a ok hatchback, the captiva is an ok cheap 4x4.

The orlando is a good mpv if somewhat expensive for a chevrolet.

Again, the new aveo has a good write up.

For me they have never make their mind up. Its unlikely any buyers are daft enough to buy into the 'american' dream image they sometimes put out. They cant make there mind up if they are a proper budget brand or fighting vauxhall, ford, kia, nissan, etc for the middle ground.

They dont have the reputation to stand firm in the middle ground and their list prices puts them outside the budget price range.

The problem they have now is Dacia have moved in and taken up alot of the budget market (even suzuki are feeling the pinch), they wont want to get into a fight wirh Dacia over price as they dont seem to have the executive leadership of what type of brand/customer they wish to be/to attract.

At the time the car was sold as the Grande Punto - but yes it was offered with a similar warranty to the Bravo (we went as far as getting brochures, etc).

It may have been the grande punto as well.

i recall they whre trying to sell us a few Doblo vans but they wouldnt provide the same warranty as the Bravo.

The current bravo is meant to be a decent car.

Chevrolet/Daewoo suffering the same lack of kudos that once applied to Skoda by the sounds of it, and no doubt still would if much wasn't made of the untouchable VAG parts bin.

Arn't they basically the GM equivalent car under the skin, if so whats the problem if carefully bought, bit like Skoda then.

3 year warranty applies to premium German cars so why pick on GM, if the Germans were so good they would have no hesitation in offering proper warranties, putting their money where their mouths are so to speak.

Where they went a bit off the rails was to overprice them new, but then lots of cars are way overpriced but sell well because of badge kudos, they are all 4 wheelers that go from A to B and use fuel to do so, they almost all depreciate to almost nothing within 10 years anyway.

Chev/Dae make some decent alternatives to the norm often having cavernous interiors inside standard slightly conservative bodies and none the worse for that, we're not all clones yet and don't all want cloned cars with ever more camp LED lights fore and aft. They stick to proper automatic boxes for those who want an auto option, depreciate quickly due IMO in no small measure to badge snobbery (as would Skoda if it wasn't for the VW connection) so can make sensible used buys.

I'd gladly have a Cruze/Aveo/Lacetti/Epica if i wanted a standard good value car roomy for its size, Lacetti estate particularly a very useful car and nice to drive in auto form especially, whats basically wrong with any of these if bought sensibly....not look right on the drive or in the work car park or is the TG mobs opinion actually taken seriously somewhere, dear me get a grip.

Can't believe anyone falls for the these long warranties. Look at what isn't included-brakes, clutch, v belts, batteries, 'characteristic' rattles rumbles, paint fading etc etc.

You're basically locked into pricey dealership serving for 5/7 years as insurance against an unlikely catastrophic failure.

Tried Toyota?, basically even friction parts are covered within reason, clutch fails prematurely it will be fixed unless its obvious from use it was abused.

Toyota servicing is so reasonably priced that unless you DIY its simply not worth going elsewhere.

I'm not a great fan of GM products in general (Vauxhalls in recent years have often been rather flaky) but these Daewoo cars are useful in the second-hand market as cheap heavily-depreciated buys.

The build quality is not particularly any worse than a Vauxhall; they're simple designs that any mechanic can get his head around, being as they are very similar to a Vauxhall and they don't usually have any nasty reliability vices.

Wouldn't buy one new but a 2009 Daewoo beats out a 2003 VW any day of the week if you have £2000 to spend!
