Best car for repatriation, opinions appreciated! - shanks'pony

Hi everyone!

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I've been working in Germany for the last year, and during this time I have had a company BMW 1 series. In July I will return to England and I am looking to buy a car for between 2 - 3000 pounds (sorry no pound symbol on German keyboards)

Im looking for a relatively small petrol car, eg Peugeot 206, Vauxhall Astra, Ford Focus etc... Engine no bigger than a 1.6.

They all seem similar for the money, so I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions or advice.

Thanks in advance

Not on my German keyboard, just tried it! I always use Alt +156. The Alt+163 gives ú

Back on topic, you may or may not be able to get an NCB in the UK. I transferred mine to Austria with no problem, but I owned my own car in the UK so that was straightforward. It might be worth getting confirmation of your driving record from your company's insurers in Germany.

The cheaper you go, the mnore it's true that condition, and preferably a service history, matter more than make or model.

That said, buying an old Toyota seems rather less of a gamble and they soldier on for years. In your position I'd look for a Yaris / Corolla / Verso / Avensis according to the size you need. The Corolla (which was facelifted and became the Auris in about 2007) is nearest in size to your 1-series.
