Peugeot 307 - How easy to change a particle filter - olivier74

My car (307HDi 110bhp 2003) had the particle filter changed at 100,000miles, I now have 191,000miles and the "unblock particle filter" and/or "antipollution fault" comes more often. I run it at higher revs to burn it off but getting a clutch smell!

I topped up the eolys fluid 6 months ago but the particle filter might have reached its shelf life providing that the liquid is being injectedand notblocked too. I should have marked the refilled level on the fluid tank at the time.

You can find particle filters on the net for about £140, cheaper than the usual £650 fitted at peugeot dealer!! Are these reliable and easy to fit oneself? (with the help from the Haynes manual!)

Low revs & higher load on the engine give the best conditions for a regen. Try to keep above 40mph in top gear for 20 minutes. If you remove the old filter you can clean it by reverse jetwashing with water.

Reverse jet washing can do more harm than good do it but be prepared for a total disaster inside is a very fragile expensive honeycomb and jet washing can do a lot of damage, there are companies in Germany that will clean them properly at a far cheaper price than replacement its quite easy to change them make sure you soak all the clamp bolts in penertrating oil the night before.

A DPF is not a device that gas passes through once, gasses pass through several times thus a jet wash will do nothing. Add to that the particles are bonded to the matrix and the only way to remove them is at temps above 600 degrees. The particles are also toxic, how would you dispose of the liquid.

You could always try the dishwasher, that might work, it is April 1st in a couple of days.

There are many channels to increase surface area but it is a single pass flow.

It depends why it is blocked. If is an eloys catalysed trap it is probably blocked with ash rather than soot and this won't wash out.

The early PSA FAP's (DPF) were meant to be exchanged at 50k for a cleaned filter & the dirty one sent to a central depot in France for cleaning. Or you as I say & have done, you can DIY by washing yourself.

A lot of people are advocating DPF removal on older cars. Might be cheaper?

I have seen online a few ways of removing a DPF whether they work...

One seems to just remove it, either emtying the content or replace with a stainless steel tube and remap the ecu,

the other would be to remove the content or just drill through and fool the ecu on the DPF pressure differential sensor (behind the battery on the 307) by adding a potentiometer. The guy applied a value of 0.35v on his volvo back to the ECU, not sure how he calculated that, then reset fault codes...anyone knows if that works at all
