Nissan Almera N16 - Squeaky engine, no loss of power - Rockvilla

Hi

I have a 2003 1.5s Almera which has done me in good stead over the past 5 years, it has 80k miles on it. I have noticed over the past couple of months a random squeak coming from my engine. Seems to be below 1500 revs and isnt constant. I had a garage look at it and they couldnt explain it as everything is working as it should be. Im not losing any power, drive is the same as always and there are no engine management lights coming on and its not burning oil (cant see any leaks either).

Having read the dreaded timing chain stories its got me a bit worried, but Im not sure that is the problem. The noise is coming from the drivers side of the enginer.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

There's a couple of belts down there. Try squirting a bit of water on them, see if it goes.

Also reversing the direction of travel of the belts may work.

Thanks folks, I'll look into that
