Last night s programme highlighted the trade in car parts from stolen cars. .

Usually high end Audis and Range Rover but Ford Fiesta for some reason ?

The trackers are disabled and the cars are “ chopped “ in a matter of hours packed into containers for shipping to Eastern Europe or beyond.

A reminder to everyone with a car with keyless ignition to use their faraday pouches !

Interestingly it seems that Lithuania may have specialised in car parts for some time. Before I got my 1991 Pug 205 back in 2022 it needed a headlamp replaced. Plenty of continental right-dipping examples available, several from Lithuania.

Unfortunately keyless start and drive have made modern cars much easier to steal . One the “code” has been grabbed , the car is open and the steering lock is off . No faffing about trying to pick or break the lock as on older cars . You don’t see cars up on bricks any more with the wheels stolen, it’s easier to take the whole vehicle.

Very few Tesla s stolen this way. Is this because their security is better or there is no market for them ?
