Honda CR-V - HOnda (UK) parts prices - reversing camera - Alan Walters

So my 18 plate CR-V exec 1.5 turbo needs a new reversing camera - well that's ok surely it cant cost much ...

Generic ones are about £65 but not one there for my year so went to dealer (Vertu Honda Grantham)

Thank you sir that would be £1611.22

I suspect Honda (UK) are possibly inflating parts prices for newer cars as they have a monopoly with OEM parts....... anyone have any similar experience?

I have written to the ombudsman but am also interested in a class action if enough of us have had similar astonishing costs that cannot reasonably be justified (its just a cheap sensor in a plastic housing that doesn't fit well with some cable dangling out the back to plug in)

Have you tried a different dealer?

Lots on ebay.

Thank you I do appreciate you going to that trouble.

Sadly it doesn't fit the 1.5.

There is only one on eBay and he has just pulled it out from the back instead of dismantling from the inside so the wiring and plug are all missing. No clue whether it will be possible to reconnect it after the way it has been taken out (sigh)

Oh for the days of driving to a sc***yard with a toolbox and taking cars to pieces! (Then the boss stopping us on the way out and checking the toolbox for parts)

Thanks very again much appreciated

Have you tried a different dealer?

Or you could revert to using eyesight and door mirrors - oh, I forgot, it's hard to see out of the window in recent cars, that's why they all need these cameras ... :-)

Is a failed reversing camera a MoT failure ?

Honda CR-V - HOnda (UK) parts prices - reversing camera - Alan Walters

It is NOT an MOT failure

It cant be sold if it is faulty (unless I lie which I won't) and if it is not working and I reverse in to someone???

Also I have spine issues that you do not know about that prevent me from turning right back without severe pain - never assume anything about someone posting maybe ? Thanks

This is the reply from Honda (UK) who set the fixed price (or should that be price fixing? "While I can confirm that the pricing in question is correct and set in line with our parts policy, I must respectfully advise that our position remains unchanged."

Now you know why cars are getting stolen for their parts . New Ford ranger , rear lights , £900 per side .

The cheapest way to run an older car used to be to buy a spares vehicle. It sounds as if it's becoming viable for newer cars too!

I had a problem with my CRV 2012 - parking sensor fault -the main dealer was roughly £400 fitted. A local auto electrician said it was a switch inside the car - low down on the dashboard. It was some £300. He told me to leave it at that price.

I took the switch out, unplugged it and re-plugged it - Bingo worked another 5 years until I sold the car in 2023

I sympathise with you Alan but when faced with the cost of a replacement roof aerial base for my 22 year old RAV at £550 from the Main dealer I eventually found a second hand one at a Japanese Car Parts depot in Nottingham .

They charged £20; and posted it to me after removing it from the doner car.

The only way with a low value car.

But taxi drivers buy replacement batteries for their Prius at around £1000 fitted in an hour at a Japanese parts centre near me again from crashed cars .

Perhaps best to restrict the search for parts to Japanese car breakers who sometimes don’t advertise individual parts as on eBay

Or try the Japanese car breaker at Bedford or elsewhere .

They don’t have time to list everything so it may mean taking the item off the vehicle just like the old days !

Or Interpart at Daventry have a huge collection of nearly new car s that they will remove a part from. No visitors though . Email them or phone
