DVLA - driving licence renewal - Orb>>.

Just helping youngrovergirl to renew her licence

using gov.uk/renew-driving-licence

Going through everything, created an account but when it sends back to DVLA it does NOT include the hyphen in surname so doe not recognise time at address even though identity passport and driving licence scanned and uploaded.

Spoke to a very helpful chappie at DVLA who said go to do not create an account and do it on the old system.

Still refused.

Off to the post office in the morning.

It does not recognise my name hyphened.

Passport does, everything else does. Photo valid as passport renewed last year.

Just hope the Post Office hasn't been closed by the time you get there...

Our local one was in WHSmith so assume that will go now as well.

Had a glitch when helping renew a friend's licence. You'd think after seventy-odd years they'd know if their middle name was Frances or Francis. Different on passport and licence!

Just another problem caused by the powers that be wanting to make everything done by computer so all records are digital.

This enables 'computer says no' to frustrate ordinary taxpaying citizens

.Many of these 'improved' systems are not adequately beta-tested, nor are they necessary, but justified by theoretical savings in bureaucratic time, manpower and cost.

The time and cost is thus transferred to Joe Public who, has no choice.

Perhaps they are still being beta-tested ?? :-)

A good point, I have perhaps become over cynical.

Renewal of something which five years ago entailed filling in a two or three page form now has a 16 page on-line form as the preferred renewal method, including the need to upload other documents.

Dashcams which used to be plug-and-play now need an App to be downloaded, this is an increasing trend for many services.

It assumes everyone has a smart phone, good access to Wi-Fi and is happy to jump through these hoops to obtain a service.
