Nissan Juke automatic - Claire06

Hello, I currently have a 13 plate toyota automatic but looking to trade this in and get a newer car. I have always wanted a nissan juke, I love the look, however, I can only drive automatic cars and have read lots about cvt issues in nissan jukes. The posts and articles I have read all seem to apply to earlier models, Iam looking to get a 17/18 plate and just wondered if the cvt issues still occur in Jukes from these dates? Any advice would be much appreciated.

They redesigned it but failure rates are still far too high to recommend it. The 1.2 turbo petrol is also pretty notorious for failures too. They’re known for steering rack failures too. Don’t touch anything other than a basic manual 1.6 petrol or a well looked after 1.5 diesel. These aren’t reliable cars especially with a self shifter. If you absolutely must have one then get an approved used one and take out a Nissan backed extended warranty for the full term of ownership and get rid of it before the policy is up. Make sure the claims limit will cover a gearbox replacement at the main dealer which is likely to be £4-£5k.

Personally, I’d buy something else. Here’s a wee list of reliable small autos.

Honda Jazz CVT
Honda HRV CVT
Toyota Yaris CVT
Mazda 2
Suzuki Swift

Or wait until you can get into a current shape Juke, late 2019 onwards. A much, much better car with a more modern gearbox.

Thank you for your replies. You have confirmed my fears. I think I will wait until I can afford the new version that has recently come out.

I was also looking at an 18 captur or a mokka x although I havent read the best reviews about the moxxa x. I will check out your recommendations too.

As an auto, a Mokka X 1.4t petrol wouldn’t actually be a bad choice. Not a great car by any means, but for a small auto SUV/crossover, there are much worse. The pre-facelift Mokka (no ‘X’) apparently had a terrible ride, this was improved on the ‘X’, though still not brilliant. But it does use a proper reliable torque converter auto gearbox, not an automated manual gearbox like you will find in plenty of others (including the Captur). And the 1.4 turbo engine is pretty reliable.

I’d leave the Renault, the petrol engines are fragile and automatic Renault’s are hard work to sell on. The Mokka is simple and robust, it uses a well tried and tested engine and gearbox but it’s a bit drab to drive in my opinion but there’s absolutely no reason not to buy one if you like it. I’d sooner pay a bit more for a Honda HRV or a Mazda CX-3 auto though.
