Hi all

Apologies for any errors in motoring knowledge.

I have a 25 mile round trip to work every day, average speed 30-40 mph but some 70mph roads en route. I make one or two trips to London or Cornwall each year too.

Need a smallish, reliable 5 door that's economical and will be handy enough in winter with some winter tyres on it (live in city so don't think a 4x4 is justified, especially with my budget).

I thought a Golf might be a good option? I'm not averse to a Japanese car or a Polo, or the like. I've read somewhere Fiestas rank quite highly?

Can anyone recommend a car or any factors for consideration?

(Currently have two Peugeot 207s 1.6 Diesel (Sport and Sportium).
