KIA Cee'd Sportswagon - Replacement Tyres - OE spec? - DieselBoy

My 2014 C'eed's front tyres are due for replacement soon. It's on the original Hankook Ventus Primes - is there any advice out there as to replacement. The lazy man in me suggests like for like - I can get Hankook Ventus Prime 3 tyres for about £55 each, fitted.

If Hankooks are good enough for OE spec, they're good enough for replacements - right?

Cheers.

Up to you really, but if you are happy enough with those tyres, you might aswell stick with them.

With regards to your assumtion, if they are good enough for OE, they are good enough for replacements, i would have to disagree. Manufacturers choice of tyre is going to be based on cost, not whether or not they are the best tyre for the car. That isnt to say the hankook is a bad tyre, im sure it meets whatever 'required standards' there are. Unless your cee'd is a performance version, the main criteria, other than cost, will be economy and low rolling resistance. Its also probably worth pointing out that hankook is a South Korean brand, as is kia/hyundai, which is probably also a factor in their being chosen.

My wife has a hyundai i30 (which, under the skin, is essentially the same car as the cee'd) with relatively small diameter tyres with deep sidewalls, they are also hankooks. The dimensions of the tyre makes for a pretty cushy ride, but im not very impressed with them otherwise. It is a motability car and will be being replaced in a weeks time, If it was our own car, i would definately be looking into other tyre options.

I sat beside a car transporter the other day, loaded with either new Hyundais or Kias, and out of interest checked which tyres were fitted to the new cars, at least 4 different makes, Continental Hankook and Nexen, can't recall the other make.

As said, if you've been happy with the tyre and the price why not refit with the same.

The others would have been Kumho.

I've been very pleasantly surprised by a set of Nexen RU1s on my Sorento.

The South Korean tyre manufacturers seem to be getting better and better. www.tirebusiness.com/article/20160722/NEWS/1607299...s

Yes i think Kumho was the fourth make now you mention it.

Annoyingly i continue to be impressed by the Nankangs on the Landcruiser, fully expected them to prove as useless and frightening as my last experiment in far eastern makes performed, but so far at least so good.

Nothing wrong with Hankook, I've put them on loads of motors over the years including the Polo I'm using now for the guts of 20k a year. Good middle ground product.
