Subaru Outback - Tyre replacement - Cluedo
I recently had the misfortune of a nail in the tyre that could not be repaired on my 2016 Subaru Outback - I am new to the brand but can honestly say this is the best engineered/real quality car I have ever owned/driven - anyway - the car had only done seven thousand five hundred miles and so all tyres were slightly worn. The rear near side tyre was then replaced and is circa one mm greater tread depth than the other rear.
I have read about needing to replace tyres together on four wheel drive cars but is this really necessary on a permanent and car with such little difference in tread depth ?
Any advice or views would be gratefully received as usual please.

For 1mm I wouldn't be concerned, its quite possible for such a disparity to develop through manufacturing process and normal use anyway.

You may find Subaru advise to swap front to back across diagonal corners at every service. I have had two services where this has been done on my Forester and wear is very even across all four tyres. With 24,000 miles now covered there is still 4.5-5mm left on all four.

Agreed, 1 mm isn't enough difference to be concerned about - when I had my Outback, I rotate from to back every 10,000 miles, alternating between diagonal and same sides.
