Any - lane 1 ... now you see it, now you don't - Smileyman

So what's this about?

Well as many motorists will know, some drivers have the habit of driving in lanes 2, 3 or 4 whilst leaving lane 1 empty.

But, what about the roads where lane one keeps coming and going? For instance, join the A406 from the A13, travel northbound past Barking, Ilford, Redbridge, Woodford, Chingford and so forth around London, lane 1 keeps dissapearing and reappearing at the junctions - if you are a slow driving through motorist you have the choice of constant lane switching or sticking to lane 2, and of course leaving lane 1 empty between junctions.

Take this onto other roads and here's another reason why many drivers don't use lane 1!

This is why I burst out laughing at some silly woman who was professing that HGV's must be made to stay in the nearside lane at all times on motorways.

Can you imagine the problem that would cause with HGV's having to exit and re enter the M25 on most junctions going clockwise from Godstone?
