Volvo V40 - Towbars - Dingle232

I am looking to get a towbar fitted to my V40, ideally a detachable one as it will only be used occasionally to use with a cycle carrier.

The main dealer has quoted me over £700 with the usual spiel that 'you need a Volvo one' etc. I am not taken in by that but just want to check if there 'are' actually reasons why a franchise supplied bar is preferable to an after market one?

Does an after market one have any effect on warranty? I still have 2.5 years remaining so would hate to invalidate it.

Finally, any recommendations in the NW as to who are reputable assuming I don't go for dealer fit?

Thanks in advance.

Volvo don't make towbars - any their dealers sell badged as Volvo will be made by one of the major towbar makers, eg Witter, Westfailia, etc.

Most dealers will sub-contact out the fitting anyway but with a big add-on.

The warranty can't be affected per se, but if a fault arises to the car CAUSED by the towbar then than one fault won't be covered by the warranty.
