New Cars
Good: Excellent value. Good level of standard equipment. 1.0-litre petrol engine is perky and responsive. Low running costs. 6-speed automatic best.
Bad: Not as good to drive as a Swift. Hard plastics inside. Long throw 5-speed manual gearlever.
Good: Cheap to buy. Low running costs. Good level of standard equipment. Spacious cabin and boot. Comfortable and easy to drive. Brake problem resolved.
Bad: Coarse engines and poor refinement. Interior feels dated and cheap.
Good: Distinctive styling. Affordable to buy. Low running costs. Available with all-wheel drive. Surprisingly spacious rear seats.
Bad: AGS automatic is a 5-speed automated manual rather than a proper auto. Not available with the excellent 1.0 BoosterJet. Some flimsy interior plastics.
Good: Adorable looks. Fun to drive (in a sense). Extremely capable off road.
Bad: Tiny boot. Not in its element on the motorway. Very high CO2 of 178g/km for the manual and 198g/km for the auto.
Good: Great steering and handling. Revvy 1.0 Boosterjet engine. Excellent 6-speed auto. 97g/km mild hybrid. A joy to drive.
Bad: Back seatbacks fold, but not flat. Room for a spare but not standard. 5-speed manual gearlever has long throw. Satnav does not show speed limits.
Good: Powered by impressive and spirited 1.4 BoosterJet engine. Economical for a sporty hatch. Good fun to drive.
Bad: List price for fully equipped Swift Sport only £1000 less than base model Ford Fiesta ST. Lots of road noise at motorway speeds.
Good: Good value for money. Handles well. Strong and economical 120PS 1.6 petrol engine. SZ4 is very well equipped.
Bad: Rear head room isn't great. DCT transmission from 2015 to 2016 best avoided.
Good: Very good to drive and comfortable. Lots of interior space. Five star Euro NCAP rating. Relatively economical. Excellent 1.0 BoosterJet engines.
Bad: Interior not as plush as rivals but was much improved from 2019.
