New Volkswagen Touran

I have a long commute to work: 53 miles each way, mostly on combination of country lanes and twisty windy A roads. My children are very keen for me to choose a 7 seater as company car. After trying many, the favourite is the Volkswagen Touran. Is: it is available as 1.6 Tdi and 2.0 Tdi. Both in BlueMotion have near identical economy of over 60 MPG. Only difference of course is cost with the 2.0 costing about £20 per month more. No brainer or is the 1.6 perfectly suitable? I do a lot of this commute by night. I find my current headlights on my Xsara Picasso insufficient. Should I take the bi-xenon upgrade? £1000 is a bit steep (again that's roughly £20 a month). Are there other 7 seater MPVs I should consider over and above the Touran? I tried the Grand C4 and Scenic. I did not like the C4 and found the Scenic 1.5 engine not exciting.

I never advise anyone to specify bi-xenons. Too prone to failure and that can cost £800 a side, as well as blinding oncoming drivers. The Touran is an updated old model now. I'd take a look at the new Grand C-Max 1.6TDCI: www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/ford/c-max-2010. But I don't believe either the Grand C-max or the Touran will deliver an average 60mpg over 10,000 miles of regular motoring. 50mpg, maybe.
