Is a driving ban imposed in the UK recognised in Ireland as well?

My ex-boyfriend was taken to police station and his car confiscated. He had no tax, insurance or MOT, the car had large crack on windscreen and possibly illegal tyres, and when breath tested his reading was 43. He also had blood taken for testing and a urine sample. Is this likely to result in a ban, and any clue what sort of fines could be imposed? He has gone to his parents' in southern Ireland, but the offence was here in the UK. Does any ban apply there too?

From February 2010 there has been a reciprocal arrangement, so any ban will be valid in both Ireland and the UK wherever it was originally applied. The limit on alcohol is 35 microgrammes in breath, so if the sample holds up he is looking at a ban and a substantial fine (£600?) with the other offences considered, but it really depends on his means.
