My Peugeot 307 won't turn off, what do I do?

How can I make my Peugeot 307 stop running. I tried taking the key out and disconnected the battery, but it's still running. It's very annoying as we have to leave the car ticking over on our driveway.

Presumably it's a diesel. If so, the reason it won't stop running is that the engine is compression ignition and is running on its sump oil, either because the level is too high or because the turbo bearing oil seal has failed. If you can cut off the air supply, that will strangle it, but be very, very, very careful not to tangle yourself or any rags or clothing in moving engine parts.
