Why is my Volkswagen Golf making a tapping noise when I press the clutch pedal?

i have just bought an 06-plate Volkswagen Golf 2.0 TDI GT, and when the engine gets warm there is a loud ticking/tapping noise which gets louder when I press the clutch in. Should the engine be this noisy?

Failing dual mass flywheel. That and a new clutch will set you back between £1000 and £1500.
