How should I drive my diesel Honda CR-V to minimise DPF damage?

You've said not to buy a diesel if one does less than 15,000 miles per year. I have a Honda CR-V diesel (on an 08 plate), and only do about 8000 miles per year, a mixture of longish trips (Spain in the winter) and lots of short ones. Some driving advice on how to minimise damage to DPF would be most appreciated.

You're relatively all right with this one, because it doesn't have a diesel particulate filter. The 2010 model CR-V diesel does have.
