Is a diesel Jaguar XF a wise buy for 7000 miles a year?

I have owned a 3-litre S-Type Jaguar for the last 10 years and absolutely love it, but the time is coming when I would like to change it. My first (and only) thought is for a 3-litre diesel XF, but I only do 7000 miles a year. In view of all the comments you make about DPFs, is the diesel XF a wise buy or should I buy a petrol version with its £425 road tax? Alternatively, have you a suggestion about other cars which could meet my needs?

Why not a 3.0V6 XF? 7000 miles a year is a bit low for a diesel with DPFs, especially if it will ever include any short runs from cold. New DPFs are a lot more than £425.
