A dealer sold a car I'd put a deposit on - is this a breach of contract?

Last week I agreed to purchase a used Ford S-Max from a national Ford dealer. The deal was negotiated and a price agreed. The car I was purchasing was not viewed as it was at another branch of the dealer. I paid a £200 deposit by credit card to secure the car and agreed that the following Saturday would be the day to view the car at my local branch, ensure there was no damage and no problems with it, and complete the transaction.

The following Saturday came. We went down to the dealer only to be told it had been sold by a salesman at the other branch. There was now no car to purchase! My £200 deposit was refunded to my credit card. But do I have a breach of contract here? Is there any other action I could take?

Yes, that was a breach of contract. But not one you can do much about.
