Is there any way I can identify why my Suzuki Baleno keeps stalling?

I have a Suzuki Baleno 1.6 which keeps stalling when coming to a halt or pulling away, and then the engine light comes on. I am going to service it but I think it might need more than a service. I hear they are prone to this and I know you are going to say get it plugged in, but is there anything I can do to eliminate problems before resorting to this?

It may be no more than a dirty mass airflow sensor. Some cars have a programmed fix for this. Get it fully up to temperature by taking it for a 10-mile drive, then stop, rev the engine to 2000rpm and keep it there for 10 seconds, then switch off the ignition. This may induce a power spike through the sensor that may burn off any deposits on it.
