What's my legal position following a dangerous engine fault on my Peugeot 307 SW?

My Peugeot 307 SW was purchased from a Peugeot main agent some three months back with 32,000 miles recorded. On two occasions sudden power loss has been experienced where, following a beeping sound, the engine was cut to idle and a "De-pollution system fault" displayed. One the first occasion I was able to pull over and, after approx 10 mins, normal operation returned and the journey completed. The vehicle was completely normal for several weeks and several hundred miles. The second took place when my daughter was driving and happened shortly after leaving a busy motorway, a potentially lethal situation should sudden deceleration occur.

Recovery services took the vehicle back to the dealer the following day. Diagnostic and road testing has taken place over the past week, and I have asked the dealer and Peugeot UK to confirm when the root cause has been found and to underwrite the vehicle as being fit for purpose and safe to drive. What is my legal position please?
