What reliable 4x4, with 1500kg kerb weight, can I buy for £4000?

I have a limited budget of £4000 and am looking for a reliable and economical 4x4 vehicle to tow a single horse trailer (need 1500kg kerb weight).

For £4000 no one can guarantee to supply you with a "reliable and economical 4x4 with a minimum kerb weight of 1500kg." You'll probably get best value in a 4x4 pick-up: Toyota, Isuzu, Mitsubishi, Mazda. Best avoid the Nissan Navara D40 because of chassis cracking issues.
