Should I visit a specialist or main dealer for head light repair?

Something fell from a tree and hit the front passenger light of my wife's BMW 118d M sport, on a 65 plate.

It smashed the 'glass' and the middle of the outside ring light. The main BMW dealer wants £612 plus VAT and is suggesting 1.5hrs of labour, assuming nothing else needs fixing so around £850 in total!

I don't want to go through insurance so do I pay up or get a quote from an independent BMW specialist using genuine parts. If so will this impact my warranty?

If you get it fixed by an independent it will certainly impact your warranty for any electrical problems the car may subsequently suffer from. I'm afraid it's an 'ouch' moment. We all get them. I wouldn't involve your insurer. A right foot braking woman on the phone driving a Focus Powershift ran into the back of our car Saturday before last. Far better to agree to do nothing and patch up the damage as best we could. No point in making a big deal of it.
