Why is my Peugeot 307's fuel gauge not working?

I've just recently bought a 52-plate Peugeot 307 SW 2.0 petrol and found that the petrol gauge isn't working. Also, the anti-pollution light is on. Any help please?

It may need a new pump float gauge and a new exhaust system lambda sensor.
