BMW 325ci - why has the oil pressure light come on?

The oil pressure warning light on my 2002 BMW 325ci comes on when engine revs fall below about 700rpm. The oil levels are normal, the oil warning sensor has been replaced and the engine temperature is normal.

I've done some research online and apparently this is a common issue with the E46, but no-one has come up with a solution. Should I be worried about this and if so what should I do?

Probably a blocked sump strainer or a failing oil pump. Definitely needs to be fixed.
