Vauxhall Insignia engine seizure - what are my rights?

I bought a 2010 Vauxhall Insignia 2.0 CDTI in March and took out a service plan with the dealer, who has serviced the vehicle since then. The vehicle had been running very well until one week I couldn't start it. I called the AA who said my battery was flat and needed a charge. They charged it and said to give it a good run out, which I did. However, the next day it wouldn't start again, I called the AA out again, they came and replaced the battery.

That weekend I was driving to the Lake District when a warning light came on saying "Oil Pressure Low, switch off engine immediately". which I did and called the AA out again, they advised that my engine had siezed and that I would probably need a new engine as no oil was getting to the engine.

The car had been through a full service at the dealer and I had just had an MOT, no warning lights until the it was too late to do anything. I wonder if I have any claim against Vauxhall or the dealership?

If you bought the car in March, that is less than six months ago, so, unless the dealer can prove that you did something that wrecked the engine the legal assumption is that is was either faulty or developing a fault the day you bought it. I'd guess at blocked sump strainer or blocked turbo oil feed and oil return pipes, but they are just guesses. law here: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/
