What's wrong with my Peugeot 1007?

I own a Peugeot 1007. Last week I hit a pothole at about 30mph, which make a large bang. I stopped, but no obvious damage underneath. Now I have a smell of smouldering plastic/rubber or hot wires from the engine compartment.

Local garage had it on ramp and then a test drive but could not find cause. Smell persists after driving for about one minute and gradually gets worse. I live on a small island but the Peugeot main dealer is on the main island about one hour drive. I do not want to risk taking it on the ferry or driving it any distance as I am worried. Any idea what it could be?

There may be a wiring short somewhere cause by a cable that has become trapped by whatever component was damaged underneath the car.
